Cardiff Winds

Sarah Newbold (flute), Lenny Sayers (clarinet), Amy McKean (oboe), Meyrick Alexander (bassoon), Neil Shewan (horn)

Cardiff Winds is an ensemble of very fine musicians who have highly successful individual careers with top orchestras and who come together to perform works from the marvellous chamber repertoire for these instruments. They will present a fascinating and varied programme, the last two works of which are premières: the first, a composition by the acclaimed composer and writer on music Raymond Head; the second, an arrangement of an exuberant early Schubert string quartet by the equally acclaimed composer and arranger Derek Smith, whose engaging ‘Morning Music’ will also be included.

Full programme:

Derek Smith Wind Quintet No 2 ‘Morning Music’
Malcolm Arnold Three Shanties Op 4
George Butterworth (arr Portus) The Banks of Green Willow
Raymond Head Toda Cambia (première)
Schubert (arr Smith) Wind Quintet in E flat after String Quartet D74 (première)
